There are some that accept death. There are some that try, in vain to resist death's cold clammy grasp. And then there are some like the N.E.D. 4 Lich who defy death altogether.
Life was not kind to it (ymir are genderless) from the minute it was birthed. Its single parent could not sustain an offspring, and its brief childhood was scarred and pitted with ridicule from its peers. It grew up neutral, disliking others but its feelings and general attitude blossomed into a raging, black hatred towards everything. It disdained anything living and was bent into a twisted, tormented soul from neglect.
Centuries later, when it was into its "middle-age" years, it broke into the Sunken Museum on Eden City and stole a very important artifact; the Cursed Necklace of Onyx. Legend has it that the founding beings of the holy city are imbued partly within the necklace, and shortly after putting it on the Lich was forever changed. Its soul was intertwined with the ones trapped inside and its mind was filled with unholy, demonic thoughts. Finding the dark thoughts and its ruined life to be too much to bear, it attempted to take its own life with a large caliber pistol to the mouth. It was only when it lost its lower jaw in the blast without losing its life or nearly batting an eyelash that it realized it had lost its mortality inadvertently with the Cursed Necklace.
With its new found immortality, it swore revenge on all life but was banished from the ethereal plane of Artaxerxes into the galaxy of Solaris. Equipped with an arsenal of ungodly powers like summoning, limited mind control and persuasion, green magic flame projection and being able to kill anything it comes in contact with. It must drain the life energy out of living things periodically to become "replete" or his powers are lost. The Lich, towering at a terrifying 15 feet tall, can drain someone of their life by simply looking at them.
Back in Solaris, there are strange police reports of shrivled and burned bodies completely devoid of all life; every cell, every mineral has been drained and the shriveled body was cast aside often in mass burial like piles. Puzzling everybody, search teams have been sent out unsuccessfully and rarely return uncorrupted.
